As a native of Southeastern San Diego, Mathew has a wealth of experience working in & for disadvantaged communities throughout San Diego County. Mathew served in the 4th Council District under the first Black Female ever elected to the San Diego City Council, Council President Myrtle Cole as an adviser & served as VP of the Urban League San Diego County Young Professionals helping to provide necessary resources & tools to under-served communities of color countywide. In Council District 4, Mathew helped develop a homeless outreach program, established a Council Policy on a citywide Honorary Street Naming program, worked with minority owned contractors & the Workforce Partnership to provide jobs to youth & young adults, & has developed a community oriented policing plan to reform the Policies of the SDPD.

Mathew served in California's 78th Assembly District under then Majority Whip Todd Gloria as an advisor and as Director of the Office of Boards & Commissions for current Mayor Todd Gloria as a part of his Senior Staff. Mathew also served as Assemblymember Dr. LaShae Sharp-Collins' as District Director in California's 79th assembly district where he worked to establish and build the office through policy helping to introduce the "Working for Families" legislative package.
